One of the besy things about The Islands of the Bahamas is that they are easy to get to - and once you arrive they are even easier to travel around.
For direct flights to Nassau, British Airways operates five flights a week from London Heathrow and First Choice operates fortnightly from Manchester (May-Oct).
The direct flights take nine hours, but if you want to combine your trip with a stay in the USA of fly into a different Bahamian islands, you can head for an American city, such as Miami, Atlanta or New York.
There are daily flights from the UK to these cities and carriers such as American Airlines, Gulfstream and Delta offer onward services to Nassau and, in some cases, Grand Bahama Island and the larger Out Islands.
But the greater choice is from airports in southern Florida, such as Fort Lauderdale, Miami and Orlando. There are regular flights from here to Nassau and the Out Islands, including Abaco, Andros, Eleuthera, Exuma, Long Island and Bimini.
Travellers can also pick up flights to The Bahamas from other Caribbean islands. Bahamasair is the national airline and offers flights from Florida to Nassau and Grand Bahama Island as well as domestic flights between Nassau and Freeports, Abaco, Eleuthera, Exuma, Long Island, Cat Island, San Salvador and other Out Islands. Independent travellers also have the option of arranging a private air charter through companies offering flights from Florida or between the islands.
All visitors entering The Bahamas are required to have a passport valid for at least six months as well as a return ticket. Travellers from the UK do not require a visa for stays of up to six months in The Islands of the Bahamas.
